Wellness Wednesday: Fats

There are two types of fats in food, saturated fats (solid at room temperature) and unsaturated fats (liquid at room temperature). Any food that contains fat has a ratio of saturated and unsaturated two fat. Animal-based products like chicken, eggs, cheese, bacon, etc. have a higher amount of saturated fats. Plant-based sources like olives, avocados, flax seed have a higher ratio of unsaturated fats. Both types of fats have health benefits. Unsaturated fats, like in olive oil, tend to have greater health benefits than animal-based fats. Benefits include lowering cholesterol or decreasing risks for heart disease.
